About Me

My name is Omar Fitian. I’m earning my B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and Computer Science from St. Olaf College. My professional experience includes work in data science, program development, and survey research.

Research

What topics are you currently interested in researching, or have already done in your major studies.

  • The impact of academic advising on educational discernment. This research was conducted as part of St. Olaf College’s Strategic Planning.
  • I am interested in issues of representation in colonial and postcolonial contexts.
  • I am interested in learning and contributing to the field of computational social science while introducing a critical/reflexive component.

What topics are you interested in learning about regarding ethics?

  • Automated drone strikes, tech apartheid, attention economy algorithms, and normative history in LLMs.

Personal Life

I was born and raised in Nablus, Palestine. At 16, I attended an international boarding school in Pune, India. At 18, I moved to Northfield, Minnesota to attend St. Olaf College. I enjoy reading, cycling, cooking, and beer.
